2:15 – 3:00 p.m. The Aging Workforce: Comorbidities, Polypharmacy, and Behavioral Health – How to Prevent Long-Duration, High-Cost Claims
As the workforce ages, workers’ compensation outcomes are increasingly driven by the combined impact of chronic conditions, polypharmacy, and behavioral health. These factors heighten the risk of complications such as delayed recovery, medication interactions, and prolonged disability. This session offers practical strategies for early risk identification, targeted clinical intervention, and age informed return to work planning to reduce long duration, high cost claims.
Dr. Marcos Iglesias, Chief Medical Director, AF Group
3:00 – 3:15 p.m. Networking Break
3:15 – 4:00 p.m. People Helping People: The Value of Human Interaction in an Increasingly Automated World
In an era where AI and automation are rapidly advancing, the human element in workers' compensation remains indispensable. This presentation emphasizes keeping the injured worker at the center of the process, highlighting powerful case studies that illustrate the transformative impact of compassionate, people-focused care. Attendees will hear the story of a worker who overcame paralysis to walk again, return to full duty, and purse a career as a motivational speaker, as well as the journey of an amputee who was so inspired by the care he received that he changed careers and now serves injured workers as a medical practitioner. Together, these stories demonstrate that workers’ compensation is, at its core, people helping people.
Josh Schuette, DPT, MBA, WRP, Executive Director of National Workers Compensation Sales & Account Management, Brooks Rehabilitation
4:00 – 4:15 p.m. Networking Break
4:15 – 5:00 p.m. Accuracy and Accountability: The Critical Role of Workers' Compensation Data Integrity in FROI & SROI Reporting
The integrity of workers’ compensation data is paramount for accurate FROI and SROI reporting. As more jurisdictions adopt EDI Release 3.1, the need for precise and comprehensive data has never been greater. Inaccurate data can lead to regulatory scrutiny (audits, business disruptions), financial impacts (penalties, fines), and poor claim-handling decisions, which can result in complex litigation. It’s imperative that organizations establish processes and utilize resources to ensure accuracy and consistency across all reporting areas, from FROI and SROI reporting to state forms and internal claim systems.
In this session, we will explore the impact of inaccurate data on FROI and SROI reporting, review recent and upcoming industry changes related to more complex data reporting, and discuss strategies to avoid common pitfalls in data quality.

The 2007 and 2017 Workers' Compensation Reforms in NYS were supposed to be a compromise that businesses and workers would both find satisfying. Instead, they have become a case study of the old maxim, "With friends like these, who needs enemies?" Ryan Allen and Todd Jones provide an analysis of these reforms and how smart and efficient litigation can provide the opportunities that your own state may promise, but fail to deliver.
